Fair use for everyone! (including orphan works)

Last  week OSIA lodged a submission to the Department of Communications & the Arts on its copyright modernisation consultation paper. Tonight's press release summarises our views.

The three issues in-scope for this DCA consultation all flow from recommendations of the Productivity Commission's 2015/16 inquiry into intellectual property arrangements and are all issues that OSIA raised during its involvement with that earlier inquiry. In particular, the introduction of fair use and the expansion of existing prohibitions on contracting-out of statutory exceptions were both amongst the recommendations OSIA made to the Commission. For reference. see our initial (2015) submission to that inquiry, our final (2016) submission and the transcript of our evidence before its public hearing.

Members with an interest in the ongoing matter of Australian copyright law reform are welcome to contact OSIA Chairman Mark Phillips or OSIA Company Secretary Jack Burton.
